Seedling’s Plant Trees – A Re-wilding Project
This year, some of our Seedlings took to Brighton to be a part of the re-wilding project for residential, green spaces across the City. In conjunction with CPRE Sussex, a group of Seedlings planted rows of herbaceous plants and woody shrubs to brighten up residential areas as part of the funded project ‘Forgotten Places’ – greening coastal towns & cities.
In line with our company values and mission, we want to grow for good, and when the opportunity arose to take this mission literally we jumped at the opportunity!
Seed’s Partnership with CPRE Sussex
At the beginning of this year, CPRE Sussex initiated the project “Forgotten Places”, which consisted of planting 12,000 plants in the Bristol estate area, around the corner from the Sussex County Hospital.
This project included planting:
- 1600 daffodils & 7,000 snowdrops ‘in the green’ (bulb with green leaves still in place)
- 500 other spring flowers
- 300 woody shrubs
- 3000 wildflower/ herbaceous plugs
This type of tree planting is sustainable, requires minimal aftercare, and provides excellent biodiversity and green corridors for wildlife.
Due to our partnership with Jenni at CPRE Sussex, Seed was drafted as helping hands on this mission – and we were happy to help!
With a small demonstration on how to plant the shrubs from the team and fellow volunteers, we were ready to get planting! We each took turns digging large holes for the roots to spread out evenly to grow correctly while the other planted the shrub in the hole.
Re-wilding urban green spaces and residential areas, such as Bristol Estate, can help to promote mental and physical health while reducing exposure to air pollution. </p>
With Earth Day around the corner, you can do your part by organising activities such as a beach clean or tree planting or finding local events near you.
Our Impact
We’re hoping to help more local communities across Brighton & Hove to offset the damaging and harmful effects high levels of CO2 have on our environment.
As well as working with CPRE Sussex, we’re also partnered with Mossy Earth, who help us measure our environmental impact. In Seed’s lifetime, we have planted 528 trees and supported 22 re-wilding projects!
