The Newest Seedling!
My name is Lily and I am the (joint) newest member of the Seed team, I joined 2 weeks ago as a digital marketing apprentice. I moved to Brighton 3 and a half years ago, after finishing university. Originally from Bristol, moving to Brighton seemed like a no-brainer, it’s Bristol-on-the-sea!
Life Before Seed
Before Seed I worked in the Travel Industry, I have a degree in Ecotourism and my life was all about the next trip abroad! I have been interested in Digital Marketing for a few years and decided, after a fairly turbulent 2020, to take the plunge into a new career. I have always been very analytical, I enjoy making Excel spreadsheets more than any person should and I’d make a Powerpoint to convince you what we should have for dinner. My hobbies on the other hand have always been very creative, I enjoy knitting and sewing, tending vegetables on my allotment and baking cakes for any occasion. For me, Digital Marketing was an incredibly logical choice, to be able to blend data analysis with creative problem solving seems like the perfect fit!
Life With Seed… So Far!
I have been with Seed for two weeks, which doesn’t sound like very much but after 11 months off, due to Covid-19, two weeks feels quite dramatic to me. I have started at a strange time, with lockdown still in place, I have only met a couple of my colleagues face-to-face and most others over Zoom. I hadn’t ever worked remotely before this and adjusting to a new company, without getting to meet them would always feel strange.
It has been surprisingly smooth though, I have felt very welcomed and included, so many people have reached out to me to offer support. The culture at Seed does not seem to have been lost, with weekly challenges across the whole company and a buddy system set up to have non-work related calls and keep up with “water-cooler chat”, which means I have met many of my colleagues on a personal level. That said, I don’t think I’m alone in being excited to get into the office!
What’s Next
I am due to start my college classes next week and I am keen to get stuck into the nitty-gritty of digital marketing. I have enjoyed the projects I’ve started with Seed and I think the extra support of classes will be a great bonus, especially from a technical point of view!
